Urban Meyer finally made some noise in free agency by poaching a top defender from the Seahawks for his Jaguars.

NFL free agency moves fast and storylines can change in an instant. Tuesday afternoon saw a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that said the Seattle Seahawks were making a push to retain top defensive back Shaquill Griffin.

Then, moments later, Rapoport tweeted out the news that Griffin had agreed on a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Urban Meyer has officially entered the chat.

Urban Meyer lands a top corner for the Jaguars

The Jaguars have a legendary recruiter in Meyer as their new head coach. He, alongside GM Trent Baalke, just made a huge steal in Griffin. The 25-year-old defender was drafted by the Seahawks in 2017 and set his cash demands on the table this offseason. The Jaguars had the advantage of cap space in this unusual offseason and used it to land an elite talent.

Fans in Seattle may be concerned this could be a new trend. Griffin decided to head to a team that just won a single game in 2020. Russell Wilson could even be on the move this offseason and fears could creep in about 2021 being a rough season.

The money handed to Griffin may be the actually story here. He can make up to $45 million over three seasons. That type of money is nearly impossible to turn down.

Griffin appeared in 12 games last season and had three interceptions, which was a new career-high. He made the Pro Bowl in 2019 and now represents a huge loss for the Seattle defense after being a third-round pick by the franchise in 2017.

The Jaguars are now making noise and should show up in 2021 as a much-improved team with a new coach, a new quarterback, and now a new elite defensive back.
