The Giants are reportedly hard at work trying to sign receiver Kenny Golladay.

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman is running out of time. The team has done plenty of losing since he arrived and another bad year in 2021 could mean he is finally let go with his track record of questionable decisions.

But a great year where Daniel Jones develops into a serviceable starter could also save his job. What the Giants need are weapons for Jones on offense. Signing receiver Kenny Golladay would be a huge win for the team, and Gettleman is reportedly trying to get a deal done, according to CBS Sports’ Patrik Walker.

Giants reportedly all-in on Kenny Golladay

Landing Golladay would give the Giants a legitimate No. 1 receiver again after the team decided to move on from Odell Beckham Jr. several years back. Darius Slayton led the team in receiving yards with 751 in 2020, while Sterling Shepard had the most receptions with 66.

FanSided’s Matt Lombardo is reporting that Golladay will visit with the Giants in person, requiring a medical.

Golladay’s 2020 was a bit of a wash as he only appeared in five games for a terrible Detroit Lions squad. But before that, he had consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and had 11 touchdowns in 2019. He stands 6-foot-4 and would be Jones’ top target from day one.

So can Gettleman get this done? The Giants do still have money to spend and they may need to overpay a bit to convince Golladay to join a team that has had four straight losing seasons. However, a big one- or two-year deal could convince him if long-term deals are not coming his way given the state of the league’s finances.

Gettleman can’t keep getting free passes for bad moves. Landing Golladay would be a rare good addition and should help Jones continue to progress in 2021.
