The banter between Eli Manning and Chris Simms on Twitter Thursday afternoon was amazing.

Eli Manning was so busy starring for the Ole Miss Rebels that he forgot Chris Simms even played for the Texas football team.

The two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants came across an old copy of an Athlon Sports magazine with he and Simms on the cover. Manning decided to poke the bear and tweeted out, “Found this old magazine today. I forgot Chris Simms played football.”

A few minutes later, Simms responded on Twitter with, “Haha. Well good afternoon Eli!! I can take it from the 2nd best Giants QB of all time.” His father is none other than Giants legendary quarterback Phil Simms, who was part of the Giants’ first two Super Bowl championships under head coach Bill Parcells. Don’t you just love the inherent pettiness here? It is utterly fantastic.

Eli Manning and Chris Simms were able to get out their fathers’ big shadows

Manning played his college ball at Ole Miss where his father Archie is the greatest player in school history. He also had to deal with his older brother Peyton being the franchise savior in Indianapolis. While Simms was more of a college star than his father, the elder Simms was a Hall of Very Good quarterback for the G-Men. Yet, Manning and Simms did carve out their own paths to success.

The younger Manning is more likely to have a bronze bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame than Simms’ father. Though his dad embarked on a phenomenal broadcasting career at CBS, the younger Simms is more than holding his own now with NBC. While this exchange on Twitter was incredibly hilarious, we all know it was done in good spirit. Still, what an epic troll by both of them.

Who had any earthly idea that the Mannings and the Simms were this big of football family rivals?
