The Champions League quarterfinals are highlighted by last year’s final rematch between Bayern Munich and PSG. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Champions League quarterfinals will feature a repeat of last season’s final between Bayern Munich versus Paris Saint-Germain, while Real Madrid take on Liverpool in the other matchup featuring two of Europe’s marquee sides.

The other quarterfinal matchups will feature Manchester City taking on Borussia Dortmund, while Chelsea got the most favorable draw on Friday in getting Porto, who stunned Juventus in the round of 16.

What’s at stake in The Champions League quarterfinals?

Bayern defeated PSG to win the Champions League last August, a tournament delayed by three months because of the pandemic. The two-legged match-up will feature two of the game’s best players when Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski takes on PSG’s Kylian Mbappe in a clash pitting the competition’s two best clubs.

The German giants captured the cup last season following a 1-0 win on a Kingsley Coman goal.

The quarterfinal first legs will be played April 6-7 with the return match on April 13-14. The semifinals will be contested on April 27-28 with second legs May 4-5.

This year’s final will be played on May 29 in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Should games remain tied after two games, the series will be decided by away goals. If both teams score the same number of goals following the 30 additional minutes of extra time, away goals count double. If there are no further goals in extra time, the game is decided via a penalty-kick shootout.

Real Madrid’s clash against Liverpool is a rematch of the 2018 Champions League final played in Kiev. Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius had a nightmare game as Real cruised to a 3-1 win.

Man City, a contender for the title given their current dominant form in the Premier League this season, will have the tough task of having to contain Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who is the competition’s top scorer so far with 10 goals.

Finally, Chelsea, surging after coach Thomas Tuchel came on board midway through the season, faces Porto, who are looking to solidify their status as this season’s Cinderella side.

PSG and Man City are the only two teams remaining in the competition to have never won the Champions League. Real Madrid has won it 13 times. Bayern and Liverpool have won it six times apiece.
