Cubs pitching prospect arrested on insane drug charges

A Chicago Cubs prospect is facing jail time after police found 21 pounds of meth and other drugs in his bag.

Cubs prospect Jesus Camargo was arrested in Colorado on said drug charges. Camargo’s team equipment bag contained 21 pounds of  methamphetamine and 1.2 pounds of oxycodone.

Police searched Camargo’s vehicle after he was pulled over for speeding in Colorado well in advance of Cubs spring training. Per police records, Camargo gave cops permission to search the car, in which they found his bag and said drugs. There were also two passengers in the vehicle, but it was determined they were not aware of Camargo’s situation.

Camargo reportedly told police “a friend who lives in the capital city of Sinaloa, Mexico, called him in Arizona on Tuesday and asked him to deliver a bag to Denver, where he would be paid $500 upon delivery. [Camargo] said that he thought the bag had contained shoes or clothing, but had previously said he knew there were drugs in the bag, just not what kind, according to police.”

His fault or not, Camargo is facing felony drug charges and will be away from the team for awhile as he deals with his legal problems. Whether money was the main motivation or not, the point remains that an enormous amount of meth was found in Camargo’s vehicle.

The 25-year-old Camargo was signed out of Mexico back in 2014, and has since failed to make a major impression at the minor-league level. He was expected to open the season in Single-A or Double-A.
