Count the Dallas Cowboys among the biggest cheerleaders for North Texas in the NCAA Tournament.

The first day of the NCAA Tournament wasn’t short on the madness. The biggest upset of the day belonged to 15-seed Oral Roberts taking down 2-seed Ohio State. But the second-biggest upset of March Madness to this point was 13-seed North Texas beating 4-seed Purdue in overtime. It was a rough day for those two Big Ten teams.

Javion Hamley was instrumental in the 78-69 win with 24 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the Mean Green to their first NCAA Tournament victory in program history.

In addition to everyone on the team, their friends and family, the students, alumni and everyone who picked them in their March Madness bracket, they also got some support from the biggest team in the state.

Dallas Cowboys congratulate North Texas on first NCAA Tournament win

None other than the Dallas Cowboys tweeted their congratulations to North Texas, which is located about 45 minutes northwest of Dallas in Denton, after the historic win.

This is precisely what March Madness is all about.

The Cinderella Stories that emerge and the players that aren’t household names come to the forefront for a few days or weeks at the end of March.

This is their time to shine and North Texas is shining brightly right now. With the support of the Cowboys, that’s gotta feel great in the locker room and in the North Texas community.

That type of extra motivation and support should serve them well when they look for their second NCAA Tournament win when they take on 5-seed Villanova on Sunday night.
