How will the Denver Broncos build its 2021 NFL Draft class? 

The Denver Broncos are picking ninth in the NFL Draft, and they can go a number of different directions. Drew Lock hasn’t really proven to be the answer at quarterback, but he’s still young enough to turn it around. Still, the Broncos hope they won’t pick this high, and the draft is completely stacked with quarterback talent.

It isn’t like there aren’t holes across the depth chart. They could absolutely use a top cornerback, and there are two that should be available when they pick. There are other defensive positions they could use, and the offensive line isn’t exactly one of the best in the league. However, if they keep the pick at nine and don’t trade back, there are some star players that will still be available. It’s one position in the draft that can go anywhere.

The first pick will dictate the rest of the draft for the Broncos. They have nine picks already this draft. This could be one of those drafts that set up the future.

Round 1

45. Scouting Report. Trey Lance. 9. Pick Analysis. QB. North Dakota State. player

Lock isn’t the answer under center for the Broncos, and the answer is sitting there in this draft. Trey Lance is expected to fall slightly in this year’s draft due to multiple circumstances. For one, the Jets seemed enamored with BYU’s Zach Wilson. That will leave the consensus number two for most of the season to fall, meaning if the Falcons or Eagles go quarterback, they will likely go for Ohio State’s Justin Fields. If the Panthers pass on Fields, which there’s a good chance they will since they’ve been trying to get a veteran quarterback, then Lance will be sitting there for the Broncos to take.

Lance hasn’t played much this season due to the pandemic. In fact, he only had one game. In that one game, he threw more interceptions (one) than he did all last season. The ceiling is unlimited for Lance. He could be the best quarterback in this class. A lot has to go right, but if it does, he can beat out Trevor Lawrence.

However, his floor is lowest among the top-rated quarterbacks. Since his competition was below par, he was able to get stats from just about everyone. It’s his mechanics that have people enamored with his future. He’s also very capable of making teams pay on the ground. He’s a modern-day dual-threat quarterback. John Elway has been looking for the quarterback of the future since he got there, and new GM George Paton should be on board with going all in on this player.
