Dan Campbell is ready to usher in a new era of Lions football. Hereās how Detriot can get started with each of their 2021 NFL Draft picks.Ā
The Lionsā decision to part with Matthew Stafford will define Dan Campbellās first offseason in charge. That doesnāt mean the 2021 NFL Draft isnāt vital to the new coachās success. Campbell and the new regime in Detroit need to find value with every pick they make.
Surrounding new starting quarterback Jared Goff with the weapons required to succeed should be a high priority. It would be a major surprise if the Lions donāt go for an offensive skill player with the No. 7 overall pick. Itās possible Detroit can get the No. 1 wide receiver on their board with their Round 1 selection.
Finding help on the defensive edge both at end and linebacker should be points of emphasis for the Lions on Day 2 and beyond. Re-signing Romeo Okwara should help Campbellās defense in 2021, but the unit still needs more juice upfront. Finding a sack artist in Round 2 or later would be a major boost for Detroit.
Without delay, this mock draft begins with the wideout Detroit will nab at No. 7.
Chase gets the slight nod over DeVonta Smith with the Lionsā brass because he brings a more physical body to the NFL. Detriot will face a nervous wait to see if the former LSU standout falls to them at No. 7, but they shouldnāt be tempted to move up to ease those fears.
Chase can slot in immediately as Kenny Golladayās replacement on the outside. Heās not going to make fans in Detroit forget about Golladay right away, but heās got the athleticism to grow into a star in short order. The Lions need to find a guy who can strike fear in opposing defenses with their first-round pick and Chase fits the bill.
