Detroit Lions full 2021 NFL mock draft
The Lions can afford to take a big swing with their third-round supplemental pick. Joseph hasn’t played a ton of football during his collegiate career, but he flashed big-time skills for Kentucky in 2020.
Jeff Okudah is firmly entrenched as Detroit’s starter on one side of the formation, but the options opposite him on the edge are lacking. If Joseph plays up to his potential he could give the Lions one of the better corner combos in the NFL in a season or two.
The mental side of his game needs significant work, but he has a very intriguing combination of size and speed for the position. What little college tape that is out there for Joseph shows him to be a corner who can hold up in man coverage against big wideouts. That’s important for a Lions defense that needs to match up with high-powered aerial attacks inside their own division.
Joseph does have bust potential to go along with his upside, but the Lions need to roll the dice on potential difference-makers if they want to move up the NFL pecking order. Joseph’s upside as a high-end No. 2 starter makes him a good gamble towards the bottom of Round 3.
