BYU football star Zach Wilson says the New York Jets have a “good thing going” at his pro day.

If BYU football standout Zach Wilson doesn’t watch out, he might be the next quarterback of the New York Jets.

Wilson projects as an unquestioned top-10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Though the BYU Cougars quarterback is not going No. 1 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars, he could go as high as No. 2 to Gang Green. With either he or Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields expected to be the second signal-caller taken, here is what Wilson had to say about him possibly going to the Jets.

“Great staff. Love those guys,” said Wilson during his BYU Pro Day on Friday. “Joe Douglas is a great guy. It was good to see him out here. They’ve got a good thing going.” When asked if he was interested in playing for the Jets, Wilson said “I’d be happy to play with any team that drafts me.”

BYU football: Can Zach Wilson end the New York Jets’ 10-year playoff drought?

The Jets already have a former top-three pick at quarterback in Sam Darnold, but he feels like yesterday’s news. They have plenty of other holes to address besides quarterback to improve their underwhelming roster. New York has the league-worst postseason drought, as the Jets have not qualified for the AFC playoffs since 2005. Every other NFL team has made it in once since 2015.

Though we fully understand that Wilson is playing nice and saying positive things about arguably the worst-run organization in football for the last decade, he may prefer to fall to the San Francisco 49ers at No. 3 and play for Kyle Shanahan. Unless the Jets draft Oregon Ducks superstar offensive tackle Penei Sewell at No. 2, it feels like either Fields or Wilson are heading to New York.

Wilson or Fields could face insurmountable pressure potentially replacing Darnold on the Jets.
