The Kentucky Wildcats land high-scoring Davidson guard Kellan Grady from the transfer portal.

The Kentucky Wildcats are usually a sure thing to make the NCAA Tournament on a yearly basis. But this season, the Wildcats finished with a 9-16 record and missed the March Madness Tournament for the first time since the 2013 campaign. Even though they were not in contention for the National Championship, John Calipari’s program received some great news to start the week.

On Monday, the Wildcats officially announced that they have added Davidson graduate guard Kellan Grady from the transfer portal.

“First, I want to express my eternal gratitude for Davidson College, Coach McKillop and his entire staff for giving me the opportunity to represent Davidson for the last four years,” Grady said, via Kentucky Athletics’ official website. “It has truly been an incredible experience and has made me a better player — and more importantly, a better person.

“With that said, I’m very excited to be a Wildcat again and play for Coach Calipari at the University of Kentucky. It is a tremendous opportunity to compete at the highest level and pursue my dreams. I’m grateful for the opportunity and eager to get to work.”

The 6-foot-5 guard brings something that Kentucky has desperately needed this past season, and that is a certified scorer from the three-point line. Grady has shot 36.6-percent from the three-point line throughout his time at Davidson, which is higher than what Kentucky shot as a team from beyond the arc this past season (33.5).

Through his past four campaigns, Grady has averaged 17.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 47.2-percent from the field. Grady has never averaged fewer than 17.1 points per game in a season and is the sixth-player in program history to record 2,000 points in their career (2,002).

Additionally, Grady was named an All Atlantic-10 in each of his four seasons, including first-team honors in his sophomore and senior campaigns.

Calipari’s team was in desperate need of some scoring entering the 2021-22 season, and they seemingly solve that issue by successfully gaining Grady from the transfer portal.
