The Steelers signed offensive lineman Rashaad Coward this weekend, but the news came from a very unusual source.

The Steelers finally invested something into their offensive line this season, a feat many fans had been waiting for. However, the news was announced far before the likes of NFL insider Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport got ahold of it, thanks to Coward’s girlfriend via a live Call of Duty: Warzone game between, as one reddit user put it, “randoms”. We’ll let reddit user u/ProbationOfficer2035 tell you the story.

“Very random, as I’m a packers fan. I was just playing warzone with randoms, ended up with a female teammate. She had her mic on and I could hear her husband talking in the background about a “deal”. Then something was said about he would love to play in Pittsburgh. I tried to ask the girl for info but she felt a bit awkward when I asked if she could tell me who her husband was. All she would say was that it was her husband being loud in the background and that he’s an NFL player. Anyways, he currently plays in Chicago (I did look up her gamertag which is linked to her twitch/IG and she is wearing bears gear in some pics)…,” the post read.

In classic reddit fashion, one user went full Sherlock Holmes to break NFL news

The post goes on to speculate a trade of some sort between the Bears and Steelers, but it ended up being Coward signing with Pittsburgh.

Ian Rapoport would eventually chime in with the official report.

The Steelers offensive line is tasked with keeping Ben Roethlisberger upright, which is easier said than done given his advanced age in football terms. Big Ben is stationary at this point. With that in mind, Coward has a tough job ahead of him.

Enjoy the Call of Duty while you have a chance.
