Former Clemson football star quarterback and future No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence calls out rapper Lil Nas X over new ‘Satan Shoes.’

Lil Nas X is a fixture of the sports world, as his hit song “Old Town Road” can be heard at nearly every game since its release in 2019. The rapper has made the news in recent days over the release of his new “Satan Shoes,” in a collaboration with MSCHF. The sneakers are altered Nike Air Max 97s with a pentagram pendant and a drop of human blood drawn from members of MSCHF placed in the bubble soles.

The sneakers received plenty of backlash prior to its release on Monday morning and the latest to speak out is Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence who tweeted, “Line has to be drawn somewhere. Smh.”

Lawrence has been a vocal advocate of his faith and has never been shy about how much it means to him so speaking out about these shoes is in line with the type of person he is.

Once this photo went viral, Nike released a statement saying they had no involvement in the creation of these shoes. In fact, Nike has already filed a federal trademark lawsuit against MSCHF as of Monday. Lil Nas X is not listed as a defendant in the suit.

The sneakers, where only 666 were available sold out in less than a minute once they became available on Monday morning at the hefty price of $1,018 a pair.

Lawrence is set to become the No. 1 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the upcoming NFL Draft. In his three seasons as Clemson’s starting quarterback, Lawrence threw for 10,098 yards, 90 touchdowns and 17 interceptions on a 66.6 completion percentage and appeared in two National Championship Games, winning one.
