After being waived over a month ago, DeMarcus Cousins is planning to sign on with the LA Clippers.

DeMarcus Cousins’ stint with the Houston Rockets lasted a grand total of two months after signing in early December and then ultimately being waived in late February. Cousins was not immediately sought after at the time of his release, but after a month as a free agent, the big man has a new team.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the LA Clippers are planning to sign Cousins to a 10-day contract pending his clearance from the NBA’s health and safety protocol. ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported one minute earlier that the two parties were discussing a contract, with a decision coming in the next week.

Cousins signed a one-year contract with the Rockets to serve as a primary backup to Christian Wood, attempting to make a comeback from a number of brutal injuries. From the beginning of January until the summer of 2019, Cousins suffered an Achilles tendon tear, a torn left quadriceps and a torn ACL.

The veteran played 25 games with the Rockets, where he averaged 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while recording a 37.6 field goal percentage. After the 25th game, the Rockets informed Cousins that they were waiving him.

Cousins’ stock as a free agent took a bit of a hit after fellow centers Andre Drummond and LaMarcus Aldridge parted ways with their respective teams, leaving him on the outside looking in. Signing Cousins appears to be the Clippers responding to the Los Angeles Lakers’ addition of Drummond this past weekend. The difference is that Cousins will have a limited deal to see if they will sign him on until the end of the campaign. Not only that, but the Clippers are looking to pull away from the Lakers in the standings, who currently have LeBron James and Anthony Davis sidelined due to injuries.

The Clippers are taking a shot on Cousins, pending clearance from the league’s health and safety guidelines.
