Chiefs sign replacement for Anthony Sherman via free agency

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly agreed to terms with former Saints fullback Michael Burton to a one-year deal. 

Last month, Kansas City Chiefs fans were bummed to find out that veteran fullback Anthony Sherman had decided to hang up his cleats and retire from the game. Now, the supporters will have a new guy to cheer on every Sunday.

According to Kansas City insider Herbie Teope, general manager Brett Veach has gone out and signed fullback Michael Burton to a one-year deal. The veteran, 6-foot-1, 240-pounder spent one season with New Orleans and will now head to the AFC West.

Prior to landing with New Orleans for 2020, Burton suited up for the Washington Football team, Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. He’s of course known for his great blocking, which is why the Chiefs have gone out and landed him.

For Kansas City, Veach has been incredibly busy making moves this offseason. Reshaping the offensive line has been at the top of his list, with the five-year, $80 million contract for Joe Thuney making the biggest headlines. Don’t forget about Kyle Long coming out of retirement and inking with the Chiefs as well.

The team is clearly motivated after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl earlier this winter. Looking ahead to 2021, Kansas City is ready to try and get back on top and take home the Lombardi Trophy for the second time in three years. Come Week 1, Burton will be ready to give his all to try and help the organization get that job done.
