The White Sox went a bit over the top with a tribute to the injured Eloy Jimenez.

The Chicago White Sox were dealt a brutal blow before the start of the season when Eloy Jimenez was ruled out for 5-6 months because of a pectoral injury. This means he could return at some point later this year.

The White Sox are opening the 2021 season on the road against the Los Angeles Angels and the team did a little tribute to the injured outfielder. However, the way it was portrayed on social media made it seem much more intense that it had to be.

it got so bad, #RIPEloy started trending on Twitter.

White Sox get dramatic with Eloy Jimenez tribute

But it doesn’t stop there. The team followed up with another tweet that made it seem like something much more dire than a ruptured pectoral tendon had taken place. He could still return this season!

This is funny because the situation itself is not so dire. Jimenez is injured, which happens, and could return later in the year. The team is acting like something actually tragic happened.

Losing Jimenez is indeed a tough blow for the White Sox. The team wants to contend for a title in 2021 and does have a core in place to do just that. Losing a key piece before the season was less than ideal.

But come on. Someone in the team’s social media department needs to read up more on proper tone given the situation. This did provide a laugh, but that was obviously not the intention. If you need further laughs just go through the replies. They are honestly too much to handle.
