2021 NFL Mock Draft: Trades throw first round into chaos
By Brad Weiss
With the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons stop the run on quarterback being selected by adding Florida’s Kyle Pitts. Pitts is widely considered the best non-quarterback prospect in this draft class, and as we inch closer to the draft, I do not see him falling outside of the first five picks.
This is a kid who can change the dynamic of any offense, and with Atlanta, he would give quarterback Matt Ryan another elite option in the passing game. A two-man group that includes Pitt and Julio Jones is just scary for opposing defenses, as the Falcons look to keep pace with world champion Tampa Bay.
The Cincinnati Bengals had the luxury of selecting Joe Burrow at No. 1 overall during the 2020 NFL Draft, and he showed as a rookie that he has what it takes to be a franchise guy at the next level. In Burrow, the Bengals are set at the most important position in sports for the foreseeable future, and now they just have to protect him.
With the No. 5, pick they could add a wide receiver, specifically Burrow’s former LSU teammate in Ja’Marr Chase, but after seeing their franchise quarterback blow out his knee as a rookie, they go offensive tackle here. Penei Sewell is the kind of prospect who can start at left tackle for the next 15 years, which is exactly what this franchise needs.
The Miami Dolphins move to No. 6 in our latest mock, this after trading down with the San Francisco 49ers, and then back up via the Philadelphia Eagles. With this selection, the Dolphins can get the most elite wideout in this draft class, selecting Ja’Marr Chase from LSU to give them a legitimate WR1.
All signs point to the Dolphins building around Tua Tagovailoa, and they now have so many draft assets to do just that. If Tua can prove to be the real deal, this is a franchise that is going to be very good, for a very long time.
