National Championship: Fans and media react to Stanford’s nail-biting win over Arizona

The Stanford Cardinal have captured the 2020-21 Women’s National Championship and Twitter exploded in celebration of their massive win. 

What a final basketball fans were treated to on Sunday in the NCAA National Championship showdown between the Stanford Cardinal and Arizona Wildcats. In an all Pac-12 showdown, Stanford was able to come away with a thrilling 54-53 victory.

In one of the best games of the season, Stanford held on to come away with the nail-biting win, taking home their first national title in 29 years. As you might have been able to guess, celebrities and media members went nuts on Twitter after the final whistle.

Indeed, social media was alive and kicking after Arizona’s Aari McDonald fired up a desperation shot as time expired and it nearly found the bottom of the cotton. Instead, the shot rimmed out and Stanford’s bench erupted in celebration moments later.

In the victory, superstar Haley Jones led the team with her 17 points, while Cameron Brink and Lacie Hull each chipped in with 10 points each. The Cardinal wrapped up an incredible season in which they finished the year at 31-2. Meanwhile, for Arizona, they went on a terrific run, stunning countless folks throughout the NCAA Tournament. This included the stunning Final Four win over UConn on Friday.

They were hoping to keep things going with yet another upset of Stanford, but they fell one shot short of that goal. Meanwhile, for the Cardinal, this latest championship only adds to the countless titles the university has been able to take home back to Palo Alto over the years. Stanford athletics is among the best in the nation, no doubt about that.
