The Notre Dame football program might be adding its next star tight end recruit soon.

Under head coach Brian Kelly, the Notre Dame football team has fielded one phenomenal tight end after another.

Some of the best Golden Domers to play the position recently in South Bend include Kyle Rudolph, Tyler Eifert and Cole Kmet. Year after year, you can count on the Irish to have one of the best tight ends in the country. Notre Dame can lay claim to being Tight End U so it should come as no surprise they are on the precipice of getting its next potential star tight end in Darren Agu out of Georgia.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Agu is the No. 31 tight end in the country, the No. 58 player from Georgia and the No. 581 recruit in the 2022 class.

At 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, Agu is a big target Kelly would love to play add to the roster. Despite the three-star status, Agu plays his high school ball in talent-rich Georgia, so he should be up for the challenge if he commits.

Notre Dame football: Will TE Darren Agu commit to the Fighting Irish?

Agu has 31 official offers but is looking primarily at one of three teams: Alabama, Notre Dame and Penn State. His primary recruiter to Notre Dame is defensive line coach Mike Elston, with his secondary recruiter being new defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman. While Notre Dame and Penn State typically battle for recruits, Agu is firmly on Alabama’s radar.

Every 247Sports analyst that has made a prediction for Agu has him going to Notre Dame. All three predictions have been made with a great deal of confidence. While none of them view him as a lock to the Irish, it is certainly trending in the direction that he will end up committing to them in the not-so-distant future. Agu’s commitment would be a big-time get for Notre Dame.

If he commits to the Irish, Agu has the chance to become the next great tight end at Notre Dame.
