Thursday’s win turned out to be special for new Red Sox utilityman Kike Hernandez, as he smashed his first home run with the club.

After a rough 0-3 start to the 2021 campaign, the Boston Red Sox sure have turned things around. After a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays this week, Boston followed things up with a big win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

In that victory, new utilityman Enrique ‘Kike’ Hernandez enjoyed quite the moment, as he ended up belting his first home run in a Red Sox uniform. You better believe this is a blast he won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Kike Hernandez blasted a solo homer against the Orioles on Thursday

With Boston already in control of this one, up 6-3 in the top of the eighth, Hernandez swung at a ball just below the strike zone and sent it out of the park. As soon as he made contact, you could tell he knew that ball was going to travel far enough to put another run up on the board for Boston.

Hernandez can suit up all over the place for the Red Sox. In the Thursday victory, he got the nod at center field for the AL East powerhouse. Thus far this season, Hernandez is hitting just .179, but that homer is sure to give him plenty of confidence for the rest of the month.

As for skipper Alex Cora, seeing Hernandez go yard like that had to bring a smile to his face. With Thursday’s win, Boston has now won four consecutive games. The four-game winning streak is their longest since the summer of 2019. Following last year’s terrible showing, Boston is ready to make plenty of noise throughout the campaign. So far, so good.
