Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson is already living up to 5-star status

Running back TreVeyon Henderson is already turning heads on the Ohio State football team.

Five-star running back TreVeyon Henderson becomes the third freshman on the Ohio State football team to have his black stripe removed from his helmet during spring practice.

The black stripe tradition dates back to when Urban Meyer first came to Columbus. A freshman must wear a black stripe on the helmet until he has impressed the coaching staff enough for it to be removed. Henderson becomes the third Buckeyes freshman to have his black stripe removed, joining five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer and four-star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Ohio State is expecting big things out of Henderson in the backfield right away in 2021.

Though Ohio State is the best program in the Big Ten by a country mile, 2021 could be a bit of a reloading year for the Buckeyes. They have instability at the quarterback position with last year’s starter Justin Fields deciding to turn pro after his junior year. Ohio State also loses one of its best running backs in Trey Sermon to the 2021 NFL Draft. This team will be good, but maybe not great.

What will go a long way towards Ohio State punching another ticket to the College Football Playoff is Henderson’s emergence in the backfield alongside Master Teague. Even if CJ Stroud, Jack Miller or Kyle McCord do become stars under center, this will not be a team led by the passing game again under head coach Ryan Day. This is why Henderson has to live up to his five-star hype.

With his black stripe being removed already, Ohio State has loved what it has seen out of him.
