Georgia football: 1 can’t-miss recruit Kirby Smart needs to sign this recruiting class
By John Buhler
Kirby Smart must land this one can’t-miss recruit for his 2022 Georgia football recruiting class.
Even though the Georgia football team is killing it on the recruiting trail this year, Kirby Smart and his staff cannot afford to let this one top prospect sign elsewhere: Five-star defensive tackle Mykel Williams.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Williams is the No. 3 player from Georgia, the No. 4 defensive tackle in 2022 and the No. 31 overall prospect in this cycle. At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, Williams’ five-star status could give any number of Power 5 teams a boost in 2022. He is looking hard at these six programs: Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU and USC.
Williams has official visits lined up with USC on June 11 and Georgia Tech on June 18. Though all four predictions made by the 247Sports staff have him going to Georgia, the Dawgs need to hunker down to ensure the Columbus standout does not leave The Peach State, or god forbid, sign with the North Avenue Trade School down in Atlanta. Here is why the Dawgs need to land him.
Georgia football: Will the Dawgs land Mykel Williams’ 5-star 2022 commitment?
Through the mid part of April 2021, the Dawgs have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country. They have 12 commitments, including a pair of five-stars in athletes Deyon Bouie and Malaki Starks. If he were to commit to Georgia, he would be the third five-star from The Peach State Committing to the G, along with Bouie and Starks. Having three five-stars to commit in-state would be massive.
Overall, landing Williams would serve as the ultimate tone-setter for the Georgia program. It would signify that the Dawgs will not have their top talent in-state poached by an SEC or in-state rival. What is important to note is Columbus is the nearest metropolis to cross-divisional rival Auburn. If the Tigers were in the mix for him, then we might have a serious battle on our hands.
It may not come easy, but Georgia is in decent shape to procure Williams’ 2022 commitment.
