The Chiefs want to regain their place as the top team in the NFL in 2021. Here are five bold predictions for Kansas City’s upcoming season.

The failure to win Super Bowl LIV will serve as a rallying cry for the Chiefs during their 2021 season. Everyone in Kansas City wants to regain their place atop the NFL standings when the upcoming campaign is said and done.

Fortunately for Andy Reid and his coaching staff, the roster is still chocked full of elite talent. On offense, everything starts with the league’s best quarterback. Patrick Mahomes is just entering his prime as a player and that should terrify the rest of the league. Add in the multitude of weapons he gets to work with on a regular basis and it’s easy to see why Kansas City’s offense is primed for a big year. Of course, issues surrounding the offensive line could derail everything the Chiefs try to do with the football.

The defense isn’t quite as exciting. Guys like Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu give the Chiefs outstanding playmakers on that side of the ball, but the depth isn’t there to forge an elite defense. This group needs some average players to have career years if they want to match the offense’s level of play.

Without further delay, read on to discover five bold predictions about the Chiefs’ 2021 campaign.

5. Lucas Niang will start at left tackle

Niang is somewhat of a forgotten man in Kansas City after his decision to opt-out of the 2020 season. The former third-round pick will serve as an “extra” rookie for the Chiefs in 2021.

He currently sits behind Martinas Rankin on the depth chart at left tackle, but he’s got the upside to unseat the veteran if he plays to his full potential. Look for Niang to take over the responsibility of protecting Mahomes’ blind side early in the regular season.
