Georgia football: Dawgs heating up for 5-star recruit from Florida

The Georgia football could be closing in on this five-star prospect from behind enemy lines.

As expected, the Georgia football program is not done adding to its already impressive 2022 recruiting class. The Dawgs are on the verge of adding another five-star to their program in safety Kamari Wilson out of Florida.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Wilson is the No. 1 safety in the country, the No. 5 player from Florida and the No. 24 player nationally. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back from Fort Pierce will be playing his senior season at the IMG Academy in Bradenton. He has 33 official offers but is keen on these six programs: Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, South Carolina and Texas A&M.

Wilson is the type of playmaker Georgia head coach Kirby Smart would love to have flying around in his secondary. With the only prediction made by the 247Sports staff having Wilson heading to Athens, there is a very strong possibility that Georgia ends up gaining another five-star to its No. 2 overall recruiting class for 2022. Here is what Wilson can do on the gridiron for the Bulldogs.

Georgia football: Will the Dawgs land Kamari Wilson’s five-star commitment?

Wilson’s primary recruiter to Georgia is new defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae. This is his first year with the Dawgs after coaching at his alma mater of West Virginia University. Addae has already procured the five-star commitment of athlete Malaki Starks this offseason, as well as the four-star commitment of cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew. Addae can land Wilson for 2022.

What makes the Dawgs a potential early leader for Wilson is that he will be taking his first official visit to Athens later this spring on June 4. If he were to commit, he would be the third five-star in Georgia’s 2022 class, joining Starks fellow athlete Deyon Bouie out of Smart’s hometown of Bainbridge. Given Georgia’s track record of developing defensive backs under Smart, this can work.

While Wilson’s recruitment is only getting started, the Dawgs have a shot to seal the deal in June.
