New York Mets second baseman Jonathan Villar gave the team a thrilling win over the Philadelphia Phillies with a walk-off single

There’s a party going on in Queens! That’s because the New York Mets have just taken Game 1 of their double-header with the Philadelphia Phillies in epic fashion. If you were hoping for a walk-off in this one, that’s what you’ve received thanks to Mets second baseman Johnathan Villar.

With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Villar roped a single to left field to score the game-winning run. That’s your ballgame, Mets win.

Jonathan Villar came up huge for the New York Mets against the Philadelphia Phillies

That’s the kind of play that’s going to fire up the limited fans over at Citi Field. This is a huge early-season series for New York, as Philadelphia has sure impressed thus far in 2021. However, New York would be able to send quite the statement if they can wrap up the doubleheader with another win.

Villar understands this, which is why he was able to deliver the big hit with ice in his veins. There’s plenty of excitement in Flushing right now, especially after all the great moves made this offseason. With heart-stopping wins like the one on Tuesday, Mets fans can’t wait to see what else this club will be able to accomplish throughout the year.
