The open workout Jake Paul put on ahead of his boxing match with Ben Askren is certainly…something

The purpose of the open workout in the combat sports world, including boxing, is for fighters to give fans a taste of what they might expect in the fight — to showcase their striking and/or grappling skills and exercises in front of fight fans and media.

At the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren open workouts on April 14, Paul instead did…well, something else.

In the video clips coming out of the open workout, the younger Paul brother isn’t throwing strikes or showcasing defense and head movement, to say the least.

Jake Paul provides a head-scratcher of an open workout ahead of Ben Askren matchup

What Paul is doing in the footage is certainly odd, and maybe indescribable — but we’ll give it our best shot.

Paul is seen being lifted up by a trainer, with the trainer using his legs — kind of like how a parent or elder sibling may do to play airplane with a child.

Then things get even more confusing as the trainer starts to massage Paul’s shoulders, neck and arms in the position they find themselves in.

The trainer then uses his legs to fully support Paul’s legs by lifting him into the air on his back before bouncing him a couple of times and stretching out Paul’s legs using his own.

If you’re left wondering “What in the world…?” don’t worry, you’re not alone.

And yet, perhaps this open workout is just perfect for a visual description of the circus that is Paul vs. Askren.

Paul defeated fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib in his January 2020 pro debut before knocking out former New York Knick Nate Robinson in November during Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.

Askren was once an undefeated Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight champion before an Octagon run saw him controversially beat Robbie Lawler, get starched in mere seconds by Jorge Masvidal and submitted by Demian Maia.
