Miami football: D’Eriq King making miraculous recovery from ACL tear

Miami football star D’Eriq King should be ready to go for camp after tearing his ACL last year.

As long as quarterback D’Eriq King is ready to go on Labor Day Weekend, the Miami football program can feel great about its chances of competing for a College Football Playoff spot.

Though they play in the same Power 5 conference as Clemson and North Carolina, the Hurricanes can go as far as their star quarterback takes them. While he had a great first year in Coral Gables, the former Houston signal-caller tore his ACL in the Cheez-It Bowl vs. Oklahoma State. King opted to come back to college for a sixth year, hoping to bring the Hurricanes back to the promised land.

When asked about his best player’s health heading into the offseason, Miami head coach Manny Diaz said King’s rehab is going well, he has suffered no setbacks and should be good to go once camp begins. This fantastic news for The U, as their Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback projects to be ready to go once the season starts. Does Miami have what it takes to win the ACC?

Miami football: D’Eriq King is on schedule to be ready for fall camp

While there have been a handful of moments since 2002 when the ‘Canes have given off the vibe that the third wave of The U is coming, the 21st century has not been all that kind to Miami since winning the 2001 national title. However, King is providing the Hurricanes something they have not consistently had at quarterback since Ken Dorsey was under for them center two decades ago.

Even in an ACC where their two biggest competitors have excellent quarterbacks in D.J. Uiagalelei at Clemson and Sam Howell at North Carolina, there is a chance King ends up being First-Team All-SEC. He has been one of the most prolific passers and most captivating dual-threat playmakers in the “Power 6” for the better part of a decade. If he is healthy, that is great news.

Look for King to lead the Miami football team in what looks to be a promising campaign in 2021.
