Jim Harbaugh must make sure this top recruit signs with his Michigan football program.

Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan football program needs to make up some ground in recruitment, and that starts by making sure four-star athlete Dillon Tatum does not leave their state, or play for a rival.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Tatum is No. 5 player from Michigan, the No. 15 player at his position group and the No. 254 overall prospect for 2022. The West Bloomfield standout has 32 official offers, but is looking primarily at these three teams: Baylor, Michigan and Michigan State. If Michigan were to land Tatum, it would go along way towards them improving their class.

Michigan has the No. 20 overall recruiting class for 2022 and the fourth-best recruiting class in the Big Ten. If Tatum were to commit, he would be Michigan’s second-highest rated prospect after only five-star cornerback Will Johnson from Grosse Point. Tatum would be the Wolverines’ third four-star commit of 2022, joining wide receiver Tay’shawn Trent and fellow athlete Kody Jones.

Michigan football: Will the Wolverines end up with Dillon Tatum’s commitment?

Tatum has wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy serving as his primary recruiter with offensive line coach Sherrone Moore serving as his secondary. Bellamy was also the primary recruiter for Trent to his alma mater. Moore has netted Michigan a handful of five stars before, including freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Maybe Michigan can land McCarthy’s high school teammate, too?

What leads us to believe that Tatum will inevitably end up signing with the Wolverines is this: All eight predictions made by the 247Sports recruiting staff have Tatum heading to Ann Arbor. Though in-state rival Michigan State could make things interesting, it would be shocking at this point if Michigan cannot find a spot for this high school running back in their 2022 recruiting class.

If Michigan wants to approach a top-10 class in 2022, they need to land Tatum’s commitment.
