Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies was hit with a pitch by the Chicago Cubs.

What is it with the Cubs and plunking opposing hitters this season? Of course, we can only assume this one was unintentional, unlike in the Milwaukee Brewers series.

Ozzie Albies has had a rough start to the 2019 campaign, hitting just .149 through 47 at-bats thus far. Yet, he’s one of the key young pieces in the Braves lineup, and should they make a World Series run in 2021 — a feat they were one game short of last year — he’ll play a key role. That’s why seeing him leave the game after this HBP is a sorry sight for Braves fans.

Braves: Ozzie Albies injured against Cubs

Pablo Sandoval pinch ran for Albies.

Ehire Adiranza is the backup second baseman for the Braves right now, per their official depth chart. So it would appear that’s the team’s backup plan should Albies be forced to miss any sort of extended time.

At his best, Albies is a force in the field and at the dish. The last time the Braves played a full season was 2019, and Albies was an NL All-Star. The previous year, he won the Silver Slugger for his position.

Needless to say, despite his slow start, this isn’t an injury the Braves can afford long-term.
