The Washington Football Team needs an actual new name, and they’re finally crowdsourcing a solution.

The Washington Football Team ditched its offensive nickname last summer, going with that generic moniker until they found a new nickname. Team President Jason Wright has suggested “Football Team” might stick as the permanent name.

Fans instantly reacted with name and branding ideas for Washington some of which are pretty good. All were, and still are, certainly more exciting than “Washington Football Team.”

Fans are being asked to vote on name for Washington Football Team

Jake Russell of the Washington Post has passed along details of an email sent to season ticket holders. Mike Callow of ESPN 630 shared the list he was sent, as a member of the media.

The full list of team names to vote on, apparently randomly selected from to send to each season ticket holder or media member, looks like this.

Earlier in the offseason, the idea the Washington Football Team would have a new, or at least permanent, name for 2022 surfaced. The process has been done with care, but now there’s a bit of urgency to push some crowdsourcing.

The names toward the end of the list that start with “Washington” sound like the name of a soccer club, so they should be quickly eliminated. Warriors might stretch too close to the “Redskins” nickname that was just ditched, though back in 1999 owner Daniel Snyder did trademark the nickname “Washington Warriors”. Redtails, Redwolves, Red Hogs, Renegades, Griffins, Wild Hogs, Brigade and Aces sound interesting.
