5 bold predictions for New York Giants in 2021
2. Daniel Jones will throw 15+ interceptions
Jones threw 12 picks as a rookie and managed to lower his total to just 10 in his sophomore season. Part of his ability to keep his interception total low is because he wasn’t asked to throw the ball down the field all that often.
The addition of Golladay is designed to open up deep throws for Jones moving forward. He’ll be asked to take significantly more chances than ever before in 2021. Predictably, some of those throws are going to end up in the hands of opposing defensive backs.
The end result will be Jones having some ugly games. 15 interceptions may seem like a sign of regression, but it shouldn’t be a massive concern for the Giants going forward. In some ways, this will be the first year where Jones really has a deep threat worth taking advantage of. A mild uptick in turnovers is nothing to get worked up about.
The hope must be that Jones’ touchdown total enjoys an increase that more than makes up for the rise in interceptions. This is a big year for Jones but he can’t strictly be evaluated on how his statistics change due to the massive change he’ll enjoy in terms of personnel.
