The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without their superstar outfielder Cody Bellinger indefinitely.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield Cody Bellinger has suffered a hairline fracture in his left fibula and will be out for the foreseeable future.

Despite having the best record in baseball, it is not all good news for the defending World Series champions. Bellinger has been out since April 5 with what was thought to be a bruised left calf. However, once his progress coming back from the injury halted, it forced the Dodgers medical staff to reexamine his leg. An X-ray revealed the hairline fracture. He will now be out indefinitely.

“I can say comfortably that it’s not a day-to-day thing,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “We can kind of just put it on the backburner, let Cody do his rehab and join us hopefully soon.”

Can the Los Angeles Dodgers survive without Cody Bellinger going forward?

Though this injury is devastating for the Dodgers, they have plenty of players to be able to offset this catastrophic turn of events. Yes, not having the former NL MVP in the outfield and hitting in the middle of the batting order will be difficult, but few teams are as well equipped as the Dodgers to handle this type of crushing blow. The Dodgers are already 12-2 on the young 2021 MLB season.

There is no point for the Dodgers to even think about rushing Bellinger back into the lineup. This feels like a multi-month rehabilitation process. Though it is a hairline fracture, it is in his dominant leg. Obviously, the Dodgers will have to adjust to life without Bellinger for the next several weeks and months. The good news is a potential 2021 return has not been ruled out entirely at this time.

Though Bellinger’s 2021 season is not officially over, he is not going to be playing for a while now.
