Notre Dame football schedules home-and-home with Indiana

Notre Dame and Indiana have finally scheduled a home-and-home beginning in 2030.

For the first time in over a generation, the Indiana football team will get to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Not since 1991 have the Hoosiers face the Notre Dame football program on the gridiron. Notre Dame currently holds the all-time series lead at 23-5-1, having won the last six meetings dating back to 1951. Notre Dame will host the Hoosiers in the first leg of the home-and-home on Aug. 31, 2030. The Irish will venture to Bloomington for the first time since 1950 on Sept. 27, 2031.

Given that they play in the same state, this has been a long time coming for both teams.

Notre Dame football: Facing Indiana has been in the mix for over a generation

One would think the Golden Domers will have played the Hoosiers at least once since the Clinton Administration, but here we are. Much of this has to do with Notre Dame being a marquee national independent program and Indiana being mostly known as a basketball school. However, the Hoosiers are on the rise under head coach Tom Allen. Maybe their success is here to stay?

Again, this is a long way out, so we have no earthly idea that Allen or Brian Kelly will even be coaching in this game. What is cool is that is it a home-and-home in back-to-back years and that Notre Dame didn’t force Indiana to play its “home game” in neutral-site Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.
