Tyler Morris committing to the Michigan football program is massive news for the Wolverines.

Michigan football fans have to be ecstatic over the news of Tyler Morris‘ four-star commitment.

Morris picked the Wolverines over Notre Dame and Florida on Tuesday. By committing to Michigan, he will reunite with his former high school teammate, five-star true freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The 247Sports Composite has Morris as the No. 3 player from Illinois, the No. 10 wide receiver in the country and the No. 80 overall prospect for 2022.

“(Michigan) I think I’ve always had a good feel for them, but learning more and building more relationships and moving forward with the process has been good for me,” said Morris to 247Sports. “I think just the family atmosphere, I have some friends up there I know already. The coaching staff, I have a good relationship with them and the one time I was with all the commits and stuff it feels like a place I can fit in.”

“Overall the opportunity it gives me for everything as far as the academics, athletics and getting to the next level, and how it makes you feel like a family is really big for me.”

J.J. McCarthy and Tyler Morris will be a dynamic duo for Michigan football

Even though McCarthy played his senior season of high school football for the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, he used to throw passes to Morris when they both attended the Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois. Though Cade McNamara projects as the Wolverines’ Week 1 starter in 2021, it is abundantly clear McCarthy is the future of the Michigan program.

Despite the fact that many high school standouts from Illinois end up playing for Michigan anyway, it is impossible to not connect the dots between Morris’ commitment to the Wolverines and McCarthy’s eventual climb to the top of the quarterbacking depth chart. For the first time since he arrived, it feels like head coach Jim Harbaugh has his star quarterback of the future.

With Morris committing to Michigan, it signifies that McCarthy will eventually win the starting job.
