Cubs: Javier Baez breaks out of slump in big way, starts hitting left-handed (Video)

Javier Baez hit a grand slam and also batted left-handed in Wednesday’s blowout win over the Mets.

The New York Mets took an early 2-0 lead over the Chicago Cubs Wednesday night. That early deficit is not a storyline at all following the Cubs’ blowout 16-4 win.

Chicago had 13 hits in total but the most exciting was the monstrous grand slam launched into the stands by Javier Baez. He was struggling to keep his average above .200 early in the season and needed a big hit. This blast to left field accomplished that goal and put the game out of reach for good.

Is one home run a true sign that Baez is back to his normal self? No, but a grand slam isn’t a bad way to build confidence.

Speaking of confidence, Baez decided to display a new skill during his next at-bat.

The at-bat came against Mets infielder Luis Guillorme, so if anything Baez was evening out the competition in a game New York wanted to be done with as fast as possible.

The Cubs got a much-needed big win and plenty of players in the lineup were able to have fun with the 16-run performance. Cubs fans may be most thrilled about Baez’s night as questions continue to swirl about his future in town.
