Giants’ Darin Ruf smashes 3-run homer in return to Philadelphia (Video)
Former Philadelphia Phillies utilityman Darin Ruf smashed a three-run homer on Wednesday to even things up for the Giants.
After spending the first five years of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies, Darin Ruf is in his second campaign with the San Francisco Giants. Being so familiar with Citizens Bank Park, Ruf is no stranger to belting dingers while at the park.
That was exactly the case on Wednesday, but this time with him suiting up for San Francisco. With the Giants down 4-1, Ruf went ahead and evened up the score with one swing of the bat. This blast was a total no-doubter.
San Francisco Giants’ Darin Ruf delivered with a huge 3-run homer against the Phillies
In the top of the seventh, Ruf went up to the plate in a pinch-hit situation. He sure stepped up for manager Gabe Kapler, as he indeed belted a 3-run homer. Ruf isn’t a superstar by any means, as he entered Wednesday’s contest sporting a .158 average in 12 games this season.
To make things even more strange here, there were Phillies fans who were actually booing as Ruf was rounding the bases following his three-run jack. So, not only did he go yard, but he left the noisy Philly fans upset at the same time too? Talk about a double whammy.
The San Francisco Giants are currently 11-6 on the year, while the Phillies are 8-9. San Francisco is right in the hunt of the NL West battle, as they have dreams of downing the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. While Ruf won’t prove to be the difference-maker in potentially bringing home a pennant, he’s always ready to step in when the team needs him for a big hit. The Phillies learned that on their home turf.
