Kyler Murray looks like Mookie Betts in throwback high school baseball highlight video

Kyler Murray could have been a superstar baseball player had he decided to go that route.

While Kyler Murray starts at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals these days, he was a dominating high school baseball player in his native Allen, Texas.

Murray comes from an athletic family. His father Kevin played quarterback at Texas A&M. His uncle Calvin was in the batter’s box when Randy Johnson ended that dove. Murray’s cousin is none other than Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Devin Duvernay.

So it is no surprise Murray could really dominate on a baseball diamond. He was a first-round pick by the Oakland Athletics after all.

Unlike fellow NFC West quarterback Russell Wilson, Murray had greater upside as a baseball player. Yes, both could be playing in the MLB right now, but Murray was the one with serious All-Star potential. What really stands out from his high school footage is his intimidating presence in the batter’s box, as well as his ability to put pressure on the opposing pitcher from the base path.

Murray would have been an everyday outfielder at the big league level. While it would have been interesting to see how he would have evolved at the plate, keep in mind his uncle Calvin played in the big leagues for half a decade with three different NL franchises. Though Murray seems to have picked the right sport coming out of college, we all wonder what he could have been in the MLB.

Let’s just say that the Athletics could have really used Murray’s star power in the outfield in 2021.
