3 Packers NFL Draft needs that don’t involve Aaron Rodgers

The Packers still need to address wide receiver and help Aaron Rodgers, but other holes also remain for Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers controversially ignored their most glaring draft need in 2020 and, a year later, it is still staring them in the face.

Green Bay came agonizingly close to a Super Bowl, reaching the NFC Championship Game for a second successive season, despite failing to draft a wide receiver last year.

Yet their lack of depth beyond Davante Adams came to the fore in their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that ended their dreams of a Lombardi Trophy, most notably on Equanimeous St. Brown’s drop on a key two-point conversion attempt.

If the Packers are to climb the mountain again with Aaron Rodgers under center, they must add to his stable of receivers but, beyond that obvious hole, Green Bay has several other needs that should be addressed at this year’s selection meeting.

The MVP for the third time in his career in 2020, Rodgers is the kind of player who can elevate his supporting cast to levels not available to most other teams and quarterbacks. However, offseason personnel losses and a previous inability to properly fix problem areas have left the Packers with plenty to do to ensure they are vying for the NFC title again in 2021.

Following a free agency period that saw them lose a mainstay on the offensive line, the Packers may look to reinforce the trenches, while some glaring deficiencies on the defense remain.
