During his interview with Dallas Cowboys brass, Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain had the right answer for the toughest wide receiver he’s covered.

Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain is trying to convince the Cowboys to make him their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

During his interview with the team, he definitely picked up some brownie points by giving the right answer to the question of who was his toughest cover in college.

We know this because the Cowboys posted footage of his call with Jerry Jones and company on Twitter.

So who gave Surtain the most trouble? Dallas’ own CeeDee Lamb.

Patrick Surtain and CeeDee Lamb could soon be teammates with the Cowboys

Surtain and Lamb faced off in the 2018 Orange Bowl between Alabama and Oklahoma. While the Crimson Tide got the better of the Sooners on the scoreboard, Lamb had a strong day with eight catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. That score came at Surtain’s expense.

Surtain was a true freshman going against Lamb, who had established himself as one of the premier pass-catchers in college football during his sophomore season. The two didn’t meet again during their college careers, though Lamb became a consensus All-American in 2019. Surtain did the same in 2020.

The Cowboys drafted Lamb with the 17th overall pick in last year’s draft. He justified that selection with 935 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season.

This year they own the No. 10 pick and have a big choice on their hands.

It’s widely expected Dallas will go with a defensive back in that spot. What isn’t clear is whether it will be Surtain or Jaycee Horn from South Carolina. Either cornerback would be expected to come in and instantly grab a starting job in the Cowboy secondary.

Of course, the Cowboys could trade up for Kyle Pitts or make a pick no one expects. We’ll have to see.
