While there’s no question Fernando Tatis Jr. is one of the best players in the game, he really needs to step his game up defensively.

Whenever he’s at the plate, San Diego Padres slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. has fans thinking he can go yard at any moment. We’ve seen that against the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend, as Tatis entered Sunday’s game hitting two jacks in back-to-back games.

As good as that’s been to see for the team, Tatis isn’t matching the same kind of productivity with his glove. Not even close. Unfortunately, he’s been an error machine early on in the 2021 campaign.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is simply making too many mistakes in the field for the Padres

If you’re a Padres fan and seeing this, you’re likely telling yourself ‘yikes.’ We don’t blame you for that. Again, at the dish, Tatis is known as being a terror and opposing pitchers surely hate going up against him.

As impressive as he’s been, the mistakes he’s making in the infield are incredibly frustrating. If he wants to be considered as one of the best players in MLB, he has to clean things up. More, he needs to be just as impressive at shortstop as he is with the lumber in his hands.

For Tatis to have nine errors already in 15 games simply is inexcusable. This stat makes him only the second player in history to have that many errors to open up a new season. We don’t have to tell you that manager Jayce Tingler is fully aware of his playmaker’s struggles.

Luckily for Tatis, he still has plenty of season left to turn things around defensively. He’s simply too good of a player to be making these kinds of erros on a consistent basis.
