Derrick Rose admitted something that made it clear he and Shaq would form a dynamic duo as a broadcast team.

Derrick Rose has spent his whole life playing the game of basketball. So it makes plenty of sense if the New York Knicks guard isn’t focusing on the game when in the comfort of his own home.

It turns out that goes a few steps further. Not only does Rose take a break from the game when not on the court, but he just doesn’t watch basketball at all.

Derrick Rose has a lot in common with Shaq

Rose not even keeping track of the league standings is a bit of a surprise. But hey, Shaq has a full-time job as a TNT analyst and it seems like he rarely watches the game outside of work too.

Imagine a duo of Rose and Shaq doing a full broadcast. Regular starters would be treated like players making their debut and names would likely be botched on a regular basis.

The difference here is that Rose is not getting paid to watch other games. His job is to be a strong veteran presence on a young Knicks team looking to earn homecourt advantage in the first round of this year’s playoffs.

Shaq has said plenty of wild stuff on live television and infamously tried to call out Donovan Mitchell earlier this season for no good reason. Even with the jokes here, we know he is indeed watching the game. However, sometimes it seems like he may be stuck decades in the past in terms of how he thinks about the game.

Will Rose want to get into broadcasting once he retires? That answer seems to be a resounding “no” given his preference for regular television over the game of basketball.
