Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has commented on the rumors that the team is looking to trade up in this week’s draft.

After a bitter season that Cowboys fans can’t give the Spotless Mind treatment fast enough, things are already looking up in Dallas.

Dak Prescott is bouncing back magnificently from his brutal ankle injury last year, Dan Quinn replaced Mike Nolan as an actual defensive coordinator and not just a warm body with a clipboard, and 2021 is filled to the brim with hope that the Cowboys can reclaim the NFC East crown.

But something else that has been looking up, according to rumors, is the Cowboys draft position. Over the last few weeks, the rumor mill has churned out seemingly endless drivel about how Dallas is looking to trade further up into the Top 10.

Moreover, the rumors connect the Cowboys with Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, who despite what the whistles from the hype train might indicate has not been inducted into the Hall of Fame yet.

If you’re to believe the word on the street, then Jerry Jones is infatuated with Pitts and wants to trade up to land the top offensive target in the draft. But Jones spoke about the rumors this week and dispelled any notion that he wants to move up the draft board.

Cowboys: Jerry Jones comments on Kyle Pitts trade rumors

“Jerry Jones said it’s ‘not legitimate’ to say he is infatuated with Kyle Pitts,” Cowboys reporter Michael Gehlken said after Jones spoke to the media on Tuesday.. “Considers that description a ‘distortion’ of his thinking. ‘We’re not going to spend inordinate value’ to trade up for Pitts.”

To be fair to Cowboys fans who freaked out upon hearing this rumor, it’s not the first time Jones has drooled into his handkerchief while thinking about a popular prospect. Remember when Jerry wanted to trade up for Paxton Lynch? Or how about the every evolving legendary tale of him needing to be locked out of the room so that he wouldn’t go rogue and draft Johnny Manziel?

Pitts seems to be legit, so if this was the one time Jerry got his way it likely would work out in the Cowboys favor. But Dak’s offense already has a bevy of weapons and using the No. 10 pick on the best defensive player in the draft — which with all the offensive-hungry teams ahead of Dallas is likely to happen — seems like the best strategy for Dallas to return to itself to glory.
