Former Top 100 wide receiver recruit Jameson Williams is reportedly leaving Ohio State for the transfer portal after two seasons.

Ohio State football will be short another receiver when the 2021 season rolls around.

On Wednesday, multiple reports from Matt Zenitz of AL.com and Chris Hummer of 247Sports emerged that Jameson Williams was in the transfer portal.

Williams was a coveted recruit in the class of 2019 for the Buckeyes. He’ll look to play his remaining three years of eligibility elsewhere.

What is Ohio State losing in Jameson Williams?

Williams ranked No. 82 overall in the 247Sports composite in 2019. He was one of four Top 100 prospects for Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ ranked 14th in recruiting with a relatively small class.

While Williams was set to be one of the older heads in the wide receiver room, there was no guarantee he could see of challengers for a starting job.

Williams played in six games last season with nine catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. His brightest performance came on one of the biggest stages with 62 yards and a score against Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Even though his sophomore season ended with promise, there was a crowd of bodies to battle through this spring. When you’re as good at putting guys in the NFL as the Buckeyes, that happens.

Ohio State brought in five-star Garrett Wilson in Williams’ class, then picked up No. 3 overall prospect Julian Fleming and fellow five-star Jaxon Smith-Njigba in 2020. The class of 2021 has also introduced another stud in top receiver recruit Emeka Egbuka.

Basically, the Buckeyes are loaded at wide receiver, even without Williams. The level of talent should more than overcome the hit to depth chart.
