Scouting Report. Washington Huskies. Elijah Molden. player. 818. Pick Analysis. CB. 2

Elijah Molden would be a fantastic pickup in the secondary for the Chiefs

With the Chiefs adequately addressing their offensive line concerns in free agency and through a trade, their two biggest issues in terms of roster construction lie outside the numbers: Cornerback and wide receiver. Since replacing Sammy Watkins is a top priority, let’s look at who the Chiefs could take at cornerback with their second-round picks, including Washington’s Elijah Molden.

Molden is one of about six cornerbacks the Chiefs could be in position to draft. Since both Georgia cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Eric Stokes are fast risers and could be off the board very early in the second round, possibly cracking the top 32, Molden is probably the best talent the Chiefs could get at No. 58 or No. 63. Adding him and Perkins to the defense would be terrific for Kansas City.

Other cornerbacks who could go to the Chiefs around this time include Syracuse’s Ifeatu Melifonwu, Kentucky’s Kelvin Joseph and UCF’s Aaron Robinson. Again, taking any of these six defensive backs really help the Chiefs’ chances to win the AFC for a third year in a row. However, Molden’s experience playing for Pac-12 power Washington does give him a leg up over these four.

We know that Molden was coached up playing under defensive-minded head coach Jimmy Lake during his time in Seattle. However, given the tumultuous Pac-12 season, there is a chance he still has room to grow as a defensive back. Surely, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could find a use for him as a rotational piece in his vaunted Kansas City secondary. Molden fits in here.
