DeVonta Smith will have a familiar face throwing to him in Philadelphia after the Eagles united him with former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The 2021 NFL Draft was all about wide receiver-quarterback reunions. Ja’Marr Chase landed with the Bengals and former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. Jaylen Waddle ended up with the Miami Dolphins and former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Now we can add DeVonta Smith to the list of receivers who are already familiar with their new NFL quarterback.

The Eagles traded up to the No. 10 spot to take Smith as a weapon for Jalen Hurts.

DeVonta Smith and Jalen Hurts will bring Alabama swagger to the Eagles

Smith caught passes from Hurts in 2017 and 2018 before the quarterback transfer to Oklahoma. Hurts was the starter when Smith was a freshman with eight catches for 160 yards.

Most of their connection would have been built in practice in 2018 as Hurts was relegated to a backup role while Smith had 693 yards and six touchdowns on 42 catches.

Smith’s greatest accomplishments came after Hurts left Alabama, but the two will still have a familiarity to take advantage of in Philadelphia.
