San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York sent an interesting tweet just hours before they make a franchise-altering decision in the NFL Draft.

The San Francisco 49ers are the team to watch in the NFL Draft tonight.

They traded a massive package of future first-round picks to move from the 12th-overall pick all the way up to No. 3. With Trevor Lawrence a lock to go to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson to the New York Jets basically the same, the draft starts with San Francisco. There are reports the team is still deciding between Alabama’s Mac Jones and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance as early as a few days ago.

Now, the 49ers CEO is stoking those flames just hours before the NFL Draft goes on the air.

Love the subtle burn on himself (Jim Tomsula is still one of the worst NFL coaching decisions of this era). Also, it’s always fun to poke the bear, although maybe this is a bit too close to home.

The Jones-Lance-Justin Fields debate might go on for a decade. For one, San Francisco will be paying in first-round picks until 2023. Every year, 49ers’ fans will have a reminder of the decision they made. That will either be a positive reminder or one that hits like a truck every year. For York to throw some accelerant on the fire so close to possibly one of the biggest decisions of the franchise’s future is an interesting take.

The only thing that could make this have even an inkling of truth is today’s Aaron Rodgers news. Could the 49ers see an option to move the third-overall pick to the Green Bay Packers for Rodgers? It’s definitely changing the mindset of this entire draft if the rumors that the reigning MVP is available to the highest bidder. Nobody has an asset like the third-overall pick to offer Green Bay.

Either way, this is definitely a troll job from the 49ers. Either that, or it’s the worst attempt at a public smokescreen of all time. There’s nothing to read into this except a bad version of a dad joke.
