At this point, the New Orleans Saints by the most intriguing team in the first round of the NFL Draft

Believe it or not, the New Orleans Saints might be the most intriguing team entering Thursday night. According to multiple reports, general manager Mickey Loomis is looking to move up and grab a top-10 talent for the future.

What might be even more shocking than that, is it wouldn’t be for a quarterback. The Saints recently saw Drew Brees call it a career after 15 years in the Bayou. The hope is that Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill can be the next heir apparent.

Everything will be about price when it comes to moving up in the draft. For some, that will be too rich to give up a treasure chest of talent down the line. And with New Orleans selecting No. 28 and hoping to get in the 6-10 range, you’re talking about three first-round picks and a proven player to go along with other needs.

Loomis might be in win-now mode, but the Saints have to prepare for the future. Here’s three options that could keep the Saints looking smart when on the clock Thursday night.

3. Hope “their guy” falls into the 11-20 range

Moving up into the top 10 is tricky. Just to go up nine spots, the San Francisco 49ers sent the Miami Dolphins three future first-round picks and a third-round pick. At No. 28 what would it cost to go up say 20 spots?

At least double that, right?

If say the talent would be South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn, the asking price might be a bit similar to what San Francisco made and worth it. Horn’s father, Joe, was a superstar receiver down in the swamp for years. The former Gamecock is a physical defender that works well in press and would fit well in Dennis Allen’s defensive secondary.

If he were to fall to say the No. 14 spot with Minnesota, would two first-round picks and maybe a veteran defender get the deal done? How about three mid-round selections instead of the defender. Maybe a team like the Arizona Cardinals who take a similar offer after only holding six picks.

Trading up into the top 10 almost seems illogical. If their guy falls into the 11-20 range, you could make an argument in a positive light.
