The Steelers made the perfect pick to help Ben Roethlisberger by selecting Alabama running back Najee Harris in the first round.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a weird spot in franchise history. The team is rolling with Ben Roethlisberger again in 2021 and seems to be having more departures than additions.

But the NFL Draft is a time to add young talent, and the Steelers made the perfect move in the first round by selecting Alabama running back Najee Harris. He joins the team at a time when James Conner just left and adds a dynamic playmaker in what could be Roethlisberger’s final season.

The loss of Conner was not something that automatically derailed the Steelers’ chances in 2021. But Roethlisberger still needed some help to avoid him having to throw the ball 50 times per game.

Enter Harris, who ran for over 1,400 yards in 2020 and also had 425 receiving yards. He is a true No. 1 running back to lead the pack of young talent in the Pittsburgh backfield.

JuJu Smith-Schuster decided to return on a one-year deal and the Steelers now have a legitimate core of skill players to once again compete in the AFC. Harris could also end up being one of the steals of the first round if he is a major contributor right away.
