Kirk Cousins’ former teammate sees trouble brewing in Minnesota after Kellen Mond was drafted in Round 3.

There’s no midwestern hospitality in the NFC North.

On the heels of Aaron Rodgers humiliating the Packers a year after they humiliated him on Draft night, it sounds like trouble could be brewing with the Vikings.

Minnesota drafted Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond with the first of its third round picks, which rocked the boat as soon as the card was finished being read. Mond won’t step in and start right away, but it’s no secret that Cousins hasn’t lived up to the gigantic bet Minnesota placed on him three years ago.

With the drafting of Mond, who many thought could have snuck into the first round, Minnesota has what could be an heir.

Cousins’ former teammate Robert Griffin III doesn’t see this ending well.

How will Kirk Cousins react to the Vikings drafting Kellen Mond?

RGIII had a front row seat to the origins of the Kirk Cousins story, and thinks he has a read on how the quarterback will react to the Vikings taking a young prospect high in the draft.

In short, he doesn’t think Cousins will take it in stride.

“I can tell you right now [Kirk Cousins] probably isn’t real happy right now. Kellen Mond represents everything he doesn’t do well,” RGIII said on the B/R Gridiron Show. “I think that’s what the organization is looking for.”

“With great work and great determination, this is a guy who can be a real riser over the course of his career. As you can see Cousins has been collecting checks in Minnesota for a long time, taking them to 8-8 and 9-7 seasons. If he has a bad start to the year, I can see the fans and even the organization leaning toward Mond if he comes in and impresses.”

Yikes, tell us how you really feel RG3.

The $21 million Minnesota owes Cousins in 2021 is already guaranteed and they’ll eat $35 million if they cut him before the 2022 season. The Vikings will lose only $10 million if they trade Cousins in 2022 but the table seems to be set for Mond to take over in 2023 if he’s able to develop and Cousins continues to be nothing more than mediocre enough to not actively lose his job.
