With former North Dakota State football standout Trey Lance going No. 3 overall to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft, his new head coach Kyle Shanahan tells him not to let the absurd Bay Area housing market crush his spirit.

There are very few places in the United States were your dollar carries less weight than in the Bay Area. Shanahan told Lance that anybody associated with the 49ers organization has been there before. While waiting to find his new place of residence after starring in Fargo, North Dakota, Lance can rest easy knowing the 49ers organization has made him a millionaire overnight.

You better believe many Bay Area realtors are lining up to get their new quarterback a nice home.

While housing is a primary need for all individuals, Lance and the 49ers have even bigger fish to fry this offseason. Though Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be the team’s starting quarterback for at least another season, Lance needs to get caught up to speed in Shanahan’s robust and complex offensive system. It usually takes even the smartest of quarterbacks at least a year to figure it out.

Ultimately, it would serve Lance and the 49ers organization for him to have a bit of a redshirt season in 2021. While he only played one game last year for FCS power North Dakota State, Lance is probably the least pro-ready of the five quarterbacks taken in the first round. Conversely, he offers the most untapped potential and could have the highest overall NFL ceiling of the quintet.

It may take an extra day or two, but Lance will find his next place of residence in the Bay Area.
